Charity Raceday raises over £1 million

November 17, 2017

On Friday 24 November, The Prince’s Countryside Fund held its third charity raceday at Ascot, which was attended by the Fund’s Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales, and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The generosity of attendees at a private lunch, sponsors and of riders in the Fund’s charity race supported by Tindle Newspapers, brought the total raised for the charity to over £1 million across the last three years.

The winner of the charity race, recently qualified vet Tom Chatfeild-Roberts, was presented with his prize by His Royal Highness. The other nine riders, including second place former England footballer Michael Owen, and third place Chairman of Qatar Racing Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, were presented with a memento of their achievement.

Prince Charles was then presented with a framed set of his own racing silks as a memento of the day by Her Majesty’s Representative Johnny Weatherby. He also watched a talk by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, of whom he is also Patron, and tasted Davidstow cheese, before later in the day presenting the winners of the Waitrose Handicap Hurdle with their trophy.

Rob Collins, Vice Chairman of The Prince’s Countryside Fund said: “Friday’s event was immensely successful for The Prince’s Countryside Fund. Not only did we raise a fantastic amount for the charity but we also had the opportunity to share with racegoers and the wider racing community the valuable work we are doing to help secure a sustainable future for British farming and the countryside. We are incredibly grateful to the sponsors and visitors who supported the event and the team at Ascot for putting on such a memorable day.”

The Prince’s Countryside Fund theatre showcased cheese tastings from Davidstow, wine tastings from Waitrose, a talk from the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, and a Q&A with Ambassador to the Fund, Alan Titchmarsh MBE.

Thanks go to race sponsors Tindle Newspapers, Waitrose, Davidstow, Coutts and the David Brownlow Charitable Foundation for helping to make the day such a huge success once again.
