Vista Veg, Cumbria, England
The project: Vista Veg is a veg box scheme delivering a wide variety of fruit and veg to local communities year-round. Its crops are grown by a co-operative of Cumbrian farmers and growers in their fields and polytunnels across the county. Together they’re building a more sustainable food system for Cumbria.
In 2025, we awarded the organisation £29,960 to establish a new market garden in a rural community, deliver training for new entrant growers, organise community open days and school visits.
Key themes from this project:
- Increasing environmental sustainability
- Powering up local communities
Our impact
Lynn Barnes, Secretary of Vista Veg said: “This award means we can establish a new market garden in the small rural community of Dentdale & Sedbergh to provide year-round, seasonal vegetables and fruit to local people and businesses there through our Home Grown Here veg box scheme.
“Importantly, the project will also provide bespoke, on-the-job training for new-entrant growers keen to learn how they can set-up similar small-scale market gardens from scratch back in their own communities. This project has the potential to impact people’s lives and livelihoods in a really positive way.”
